Mykon’s guide to the best architecture and interior design events for 2020

With hundreds of architecture and interior design events, fairs, conferences and trade shows taking place in the UK throughout the year, it can be hard to choose which to attend. To help you decide, we have compiled a definitive guide featuring our must attend events of 2020 for your busy calendar.

But first a quick summary of the events Mykon exhibited at in 2019:

Mykon displayed a range of B-Clear samples (aluminium honeycomb composite panels) at various exhibitions in Europe including:

For both ARCHITECT@WORK exhibitions our samples were selected by Materfad, a materials library based in Barcelona dedicated to showcasing the world’s most innovative materials.

For the Maison & Objet Paris exhibition our samples were selected by matériO, a materials library with an international online database and showrooms across the world.

Wednesday 29th – Thursday 30th January | Old Truman Brewery, London,UK

Architect@Work is aimed at architects, interior designers and other specifiers with a focus on innovation. The trade fair showcases a range of innovative products and features a set programme of short seminars throughout the two days.

Architect@Work focuses on a different theme each year. The theme for this year’s edition will be ‘Sensory Design | Acting Natural: new ways in which architecture and the environment converge.’

Surface Design Show

Tuesday 11th – Thursday 13th February | Business Design Centre, London, UK

Surface Design Show is the only event in the UK that focuses solely on interior and exterior surfaces. It is a key event for architects, designers, buyers and specifiers who are looking to source products, network, gain industry insights and connect with innovative materials.

The 2019 edition featured 151 exhibitors from 15 countries and 5,071 professional and trade visitors from 47 countries.

Tuesday 3rd – Thursday 5th March | ExCeL, London‎, UK

Futurebuild is the built environment event where brands of all sizes can share innovations, from products, to processes and solutions, with over 27,000 industry influencers and shapers. The event will focus on exploring and tackling the biggest challenges impacting the industry and is a unique destination for visitors to gain unrivalled insight and hands-on experience around the latest innovations, products and materials in order to address these challenges.

Clerkenwell Design Week

Tuesday 19th – Thursday 21st May | Various venues around Clerkenwell, London, UK

Clerkenwell is home to more furniture showrooms, and architecture and design studios than any other district in London.

To celebrate this rich and diverse community, Clerkenwell Design Week has created a showcase of leading UK and international brands and companies presented in a series of showroom events, exhibitions and special installations that take place across the area.

In 2019, the design community flocked to Clerkenwell with 34,185 attendees and over 300 exhibiting brands.

London Festival of Architecture

The London Festival of Architecture is a month-long, city-wide celebration of architectural practice and experimentation.

Established in 2004, the festival has since grown to become the world’s largest annual architecture festival, attracting a vast public audience and featuring an amazing programme of events and activities.

Birmingham Design Festival

Friday 5th – Saturday 6th June | Various venues around Birmingham, UK

The Birmingham Design Festival is a celebration of the local, national and international design industry.

Founded in 2017, the 2020 edition will return with a new format. The programme of events will run over two days and will see a curated series of events around the theme of ‘Colour’.

London Design Festival

Saturday 12th – Sunday 20th September | Various venues around London, UK

London Design Festival celebrates and promotes London as the design capital of the world and as the gateway to the international creative community.

The Festival returns to venues and institutes across the city in September and is set to feature hundreds of large-scale installations, exhibitions and events pop ups.

The festival includes a series of design shows: London Design Fair, 100% Design and designjunction.

100% Design / Design London

100% Design is the largest and longest running design trade event for industry professionals in the UK. In 2020 the show will be rebranding and known as Design London.

The London Design Fair is the largest trade destination during the London Design Festival.

UK Construction Week

Tuesday 6th – Thursday 8th October | NEC, Birmingham, UK

UK Construction Week (UKCW) is the UK’s largest built environment event combining eight sections and shows under one roof, across four halls at the NEC.

The event attracts 35,000 construction professionals and 650+ exhibitors showcasing their latest innovations, products and services.
