But have you ever wondered how Mykon manufactures its panels?
All Mykon’s panels are created on-site at our base in Cambridgeshire.
First, we take aluminium foil, bought in large coils. The foil is cleaned and put through a large plant which prints adhesive lines onto the foil, leaving precise distances between each line. This will later help us to create the hexagonal cells you can see in the finished product.
Sheets of foil are cut to size and placed on top of each other to create a stack. This stack is heated to activate the adhesive and then cut into individual slices, which can be tailored to the exact requirements of the customer.
At this stage, the slices are expanded, resulting in a complete sheet of aluminium honeycomb.
The honeycomb is placed between two skins of polycarbonate, acrylic or glass, cut to the exact size of the honeycomb slice. At this point the skins have already been cleaned thoroughly to ensure the best possible finish and adhesive has been applied to the inside of the skins.
The product is then left to cure. When the curing process is complete, we are left with a finished panel.
However, this is just one of the many products in our range and we can achieve many different effects and styles by using different colours, materials and backings.
